It goes without saying that many species are in decline across the planet. In our small corner of the planet, we encourage you to look after the wildlife! Here are ten examples of the efforts the Davius Nursery encourages you to undertake;

The

Wasps are also just important in the environment. Social wasps are predators and as such they play a vital ecological role, controlling the numbers of potential pests like greenfly and many caterpillars. … A world without wasps would be a world with a very much larger number of insect pests on our crops and gardens

“The engineers of the soils!”

Worms

Wormeries …………

So how do we encourage the birth and introduction of 1 trillion worms for our local soils?

A wormery for every household in Cardiff, Newport, the Vale and the Valleys?

The

FEEDING:

Any of your leftover food or fruit/veg skins (which are not acidic) – added to wormeries.

.

WORMERIES:

The working thoery that worms incubate at a set volume of numbers – so if you build a large wormery and put in several dozen worms – withing a year or so, the numbers will increase to an incubational level to process (eat and excrete) the leftover food stuffs; when you take a hand full of worms out and distribute them to soil which needs some ‘engineering’ –

If UK added a million indigenous earthworms, dendra worms etc to the soils – it would significantly improve the aeration, draining and integrity of the soil.
